Advent Magic on the Danube

Advent Magic on the Danube

About This Cruise

As anticipation of Christmas grows, the Danube invites you to take a short break. VIVA TWO carries you on a four-night round trip from Passau to Vienna, Krems, Melk and Linz. Between late autumn and Advent, cultural discoveries meet calm moments on board. Vienna welcomes you with a long stay and an optional city tour. On the Advent departures, Schönbrunn with time at the Christmas market is offered as an alternative. Your chosen departure thus brings its seasonal character to the journey. In Krems, an offered excursion visits Göttweig Abbey, before Melk follows with an organ recital in the excursion programme. Two destinations in one day bring architecture and music together. Linz offers a guided city walk, while an excursion to Český Krumlov opens up a view beyond Austria into Czechia. Between visits, the Danube accompanies you with changing scenes along its banks. Let your experiences settle into memory, enjoy conversations and make time for the people travelling with you. A Signature Dinner is planned for the day in Krems and Melk. Five days unite Germany and Austria in a compact journey, with excursion options you can choose to suit your interests. Whether you want to discover culture or simply pause your everyday routine, this cruise leaves room for both. Return to Passau with shared memories and anticipation of the festive season. Enjoy the contrast between exploring ashore and settling back on board, where the river continues to carry you towards your next destination.

Itinerary

Germany

Passau

Thanks to its unique geographical location at the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers, Passau is undoubtedly one of Germany’s most unique cities. But it’s not just the location of this “City of Three Rivers” that is extraordinary—Passau also offers its visitors numerous remarkable sights. Towering over the city is the Veste Oberhaus, an impressive 13th-century fortress. Passau’s Old Town is known for its beautiful Baroque architecture, most notably St. Stephen’s Cathedral with its distinctive onion domes and the world’s largest cathedral organ, featuring nearly 18,000 pipes.

Austria

Vienna

Austria’s capital is one of those cities that every traveler should visit at least once in their lifetime. Hardly any other city in the world offers such an enchanting combination of magnificent architecture, world-famous museums and theaters, and beautiful green spaces. It’s no wonder that Vienna’s entire city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Vienna is known worldwide for its palaces of emperors, kings, and nobles, such as Schönbrunn Palace, the Belvedere, and the Hofburg. But the city’s many churches—especially St. Stephen’s Cathedral, its iconic landmark—are also well worth a visit. Museum lovers will certainly get their money’s worth at the city’s numerous world-class museums, such as the Albertina, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and the Leopold Museum.

Austria

Krems

Krems is considered one of Austria’s oldest cities: it was first mentioned as “Chremisa” as early as 995, and documents from 1305 confirm that Krems and Stein were granted city rights. This centuries-long history, which has always been closely intertwined with the Danube, is reflected in the old towns, which—together with the Wachau region—have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the year 2000. A stroll through Krems and Stein offers plenty to discover: whether it’s the many churches from different eras or the narrow, cobblestone streets and picturesque squares with their historic buildings, statues, and small monuments—anyone who walks through Krems and Stein with their eyes open will be richly rewarded! If the weather in the Wachau happens to be less than ideal, the museums along the Krems Art Mile offer a varied program for young and old alike.

Austria

Linz

Linz is the capital of the state of Upper Austria. Around the central main square, churches, pretty facades, and charming shops invite you to take a stroll through the old town. Once you’re here, be sure to stop by one of the cozy coffeehouses and enjoy the world-famous Linzer Torte—it tastes best right where it comes from. A breathtaking panorama unfolds from the Pörstlingberg, which can be reached on foot or conveniently by mountain railway. From the observation deck and the Baroque pilgrimage church, we recommend a detour to the Grottenbahn, an enchanting fairy-tale world that makes not only children’s eyes light up.
