Culinary Cruise Danube – Imperial Delights

Culinary Cruise Danube – Imperial Delights

About This Cruise

Discover the Danube in spring on a seven-night Culinary Cruise aboard VIVA ENJOY. Beginning and ending in Vienna, this journey brings together ports in Austria, Hungary and Slovakia with a focus on local flavours. The route first leads to Vác, followed by an evening arrival in Budapest, where the illuminated city forms part of the planned experience. An overnight stay keeps the ship in the Hungarian capital until the following evening, giving this stop a place in your journey. Bratislava comes next, before the cruise continues to Dürnstein. Here, a planned walk focusing on apricots and saffron offers a culinary perspective on the region. During the afternoon, the ship sails through the Wachau, shifting the view from discoveries ashore to the scenery along the river. Linz adds another Austrian stop before VIVA ENJOY continues to Tulln. An excursion to Klosterneuburg is planned from here, with guests rejoining the ship in Vienna. The itinerary thus combines time on the water with opportunities to explore beyond the ports themselves. Throughout the voyage, the culinary theme provides a connecting thread between places with their own character. Enjoy the changing rhythm of city calls and river passages as the route returns to its starting point. Vienna welcomes you back on the day before disembarkation, and the final night is spent aboard in the city. This spring journey offers an introduction to the Danube, bringing regional tastes and time to explore into one flowing itinerary.

Itinerary

Austria

Vienna

Austria’s capital is one of those cities that every traveler should visit at least once in their lifetime. Hardly any other city in the world offers such an enchanting combination of magnificent architecture, world-famous museums and theaters, and beautiful green spaces. It’s no wonder that Vienna’s entire city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Vienna is known worldwide for its palaces of emperors, kings, and nobles, such as Schönbrunn Palace, the Belvedere, and the Hofburg. But the city’s many churches—especially St. Stephen’s Cathedral, its iconic landmark—are also well worth a visit. Museum lovers will certainly get their money’s worth at the city’s numerous world-class museums, such as the Albertina, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and the Leopold Museum.

Hungary

Vác

Hungary

Budapest

“Pearl of the Danube” or perhaps “Paris of the East”? One thing is certain: Budapest has so much to offer! Even from a distance, the Parliament Building, situated on the riverbank, greets visitors and allows the Hungarian capital to shine in its former glory. The imposing Chain Bridge invites you to explore the Buda and Pest districts, which are adorned with Art Nouveau buildings, wide boulevards, and historic thermal baths. After enjoying a slice of the famous Baumkuchen, you can appreciate the breathtaking view from Castle Hill—with its Royal Palace and the impressive Fisherman’s Bastion—even more.

Slovakia

Bratislava

The capital of Slovakia lies on the border with Austria and Hungary. Approximately 450,000 people live there. Bratislava’s Old Town dates back to the 18th century and, thanks to its car-free zone, is perfect for strolling. The city’s famous dark beer is served in the local cafés and bars. Perched on a hill is Bratislava’s landmark—Bratislava Castle. From its terrace, you have the best view of the city and the Danube.

Austria

Dürnstein

The small town belongs to the Lower Austrian cultural landscape Wachau, is located directly on the Danube and is surrounded by vineyards. Those arriving by boat have a beautiful view of Dürnstein's two main attractions: the ruins of Kuenringerburg Castle, towering high above the town, where Richard the Lionheart was held for several months in 1192/93, and Dürnstein Abbey. The latter is a monastery of the Augustinian canons, abolished at the end of the 18th century, and is known for its blue and white bell tower.

Austria

Linz

Linz is the capital of the state of Upper Austria. Around the central main square, churches, pretty facades, and charming shops invite you to take a stroll through the old town. Once you’re here, be sure to stop by one of the cozy coffeehouses and enjoy the world-famous Linzer Torte—it tastes best right where it comes from. A breathtaking panorama unfolds from the Pörstlingberg, which can be reached on foot or conveniently by mountain railway. From the observation deck and the Baroque pilgrimage church, we recommend a detour to the Grottenbahn, an enchanting fairy-tale world that makes not only children’s eyes light up.
