From Budapest to Vienna

From Budapest to Vienna

About This Cruise

Two capital cities set the stage for this summer cruise on the Danube: Budapest welcomes you at the start, and Vienna marks the end of the journey after seven nights. Aboard the VIVA ENJOY, the route takes you through Bratislava, Melk, Passau, and Linz, offering many insights into the cities along the river. You’ll spend the first night in Budapest. The following day, the morning is set aside for exploring the highlights, and the afternoon features the “Taste of Hungarian Traditions” excursion, before the ship sets sail in the evening. In Bratislava, the planned “An Experience Through Time” excursion adds a historical touch. Melk and Passau follow with the “Baroque Dreams” and “Baroque Bliss” programs, both centered on the Baroque era.

Passau is the westernmost port of call; from there, the journey continues down the Danube to Linz. Here, the stay lasts from early morning until evening. The excursion itinerary includes a walking tour of Linz and a trip to the highlights of Salzburg. You’ll visit Salzburg via land; the VIVA ENJOY remains in Linz. You’ll arrive in Vienna the next morning. A city tour and the “Schönbrunn Majesty” excursion offer opportunities for exploration there. You’ll spend your last night in Vienna on board before disembarking the following day. Between city visits, you’ll enjoy the view from the water and let the impressions of the trip sink in. The result is a week in which Hungarian traditions, city history, and Baroque themes come together with a cruise on the Danube.

Itinerary

Hungary

Budapest

“Pearl of the Danube” or perhaps “Paris of the East”? One thing is certain: Budapest has so much to offer! Even from a distance, the Parliament Building, situated on the riverbank, greets visitors and allows the Hungarian capital to shine in its former glory. The imposing Chain Bridge invites you to explore the Buda and Pest districts, which are adorned with Art Nouveau buildings, wide boulevards, and historic thermal baths. After enjoying a slice of the famous Baumkuchen, you can appreciate the breathtaking view from Castle Hill—with its Royal Palace and the impressive Fisherman’s Bastion—even more.

Slovakia

Bratislava

The capital of Slovakia lies on the border with Austria and Hungary. Approximately 450,000 people live there. Bratislava’s Old Town dates back to the 18th century and, thanks to its car-free zone, is perfect for strolling. The city’s famous dark beer is served in the local cafés and bars. Perched on a hill is Bratislava’s landmark—Bratislava Castle. From its terrace, you have the best view of the city and the Danube.

Austria

Melk

Melk has earned itself a lovely nickname: the gateway to the Wachau. Anyone approaching this historic town along the Danube will soon spot Melk Abbey, which towers high above the river. The abbey is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is worth a visit in every season. This impressive Baroque complex has been cared for by monks of the Benedictine Order since 1089. Culture, faith, and scholarship come together in the monastery’s magnificent halls.

Germany

Passau

Thanks to its unique geographical location at the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers, Passau is undoubtedly one of Germany’s most unique cities. But it’s not just the location of this “City of Three Rivers” that is extraordinary—Passau also offers its visitors numerous remarkable sights. Towering over the city is the Veste Oberhaus, an impressive 13th-century fortress. Passau’s Old Town is known for its beautiful Baroque architecture, most notably St. Stephen’s Cathedral with its distinctive onion domes and the world’s largest cathedral organ, featuring nearly 18,000 pipes.

Austria

Linz

Linz is the capital of the state of Upper Austria. Around the central main square, churches, pretty facades, and charming shops invite you to take a stroll through the old town. Once you’re here, be sure to stop by one of the cozy coffeehouses and enjoy the world-famous Linzer Torte—it tastes best right where it comes from. A breathtaking panorama unfolds from the Pörstlingberg, which can be reached on foot or conveniently by mountain railway. From the observation deck and the Baroque pilgrimage church, we recommend a detour to the Grottenbahn, an enchanting fairy-tale world that makes not only children’s eyes light up.

Austria

Vienna

Austria’s capital is one of those cities that every traveler should visit at least once in their lifetime. Hardly any other city in the world offers such an enchanting combination of magnificent architecture, world-famous museums and theaters, and beautiful green spaces. It’s no wonder that Vienna’s entire city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Vienna is known worldwide for its palaces of emperors, kings, and nobles, such as Schönbrunn Palace, the Belvedere, and the Hofburg. But the city’s many churches—especially St. Stephen’s Cathedral, its iconic landmark—are also well worth a visit. Museum lovers will certainly get their money’s worth at the city’s numerous world-class museums, such as the Albertina, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and the Leopold Museum.
