Itinerary

Germany

Düsseldorf

The Rhineland way of life, blending tradition and modernity—Düsseldorf captivates with its diversity! Art and culture lovers are just as enthralled here as shopping enthusiasts; the Media Harbor impresses with its contemporary architecture, as does the historic Old Town. With more than 250 cozy pubs, the Old Town makes Düsseldorf the “longest bar in the world.” And it’s not just the traditional Altbier that tastes great there! Don’t miss a stroll down Königsallee, the world-famous shopping boulevard—or perhaps you’d prefer a visit to one of the many charming flea markets? And right in the middle of it all: plenty of green space and the Rhine with its riverside promenade, perfect for taking a deep breath. No wonder the VIVA family feels right at home here!

Germany

Koblenz

Koblenz captivates visitors with its unique location at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. The first stop on any visit to the city should therefore be the so-called “Deutsches Eck” with its imposing Kaiser Wilhelm Monument. Since 2002, it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Middle Rhine Valley.” A visit to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress offers a beautiful view of Koblenz and its two rivers. Perched 120 meters above the Rhine, this 16th-century fortification is the second-largest surviving fortress in Europe. Even the ride up in a cable car gondola is spectacular.

Germany

Frankfurt

Connected to the Danube via the Main-Danube Canal, Frankfurt is one of Germany’s most unique cities. After all, it is the only city with a skyline of skyscrapers. A view of the metropolis from the MAIN TOWER’s observation deck is a truly special experience. But Frankfurt isn’t just a very modern and bustling city—it also has a wealth of history to offer its visitors. The Römer and St. Paul’s Church are among Germany’s most famous historical landmarks. And when it comes to art and culture, Frankfurt is an absolute hotspot. With nearly 40 museums and exhibition venues, Frankfurt’s Museumsufer is one of the most important international museum districts.

Germany

Wertheim

The small town of Wertheim is located where the Tauber River flows into the Main. Magnificent half-timbered buildings characterize the market square. Among the town’s attractions is the parish church, which dates back to the Gothic period. Inside, the Counts of Wertheim—who ruled here from the 15th to the 18th century—have found their final resting place. Other tourist attractions include the Glass Museum and a stately castle that towers over the town from a hilltop.

Germany

Würzburg

High above the Main River stands the city’s landmark, visible from afar: Marienberg Fortress. For centuries, it served as the seat of the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg. Even a stroll across the Old Main Bridge, with its oversized stone figures, is an experience in itself. From Marienberg, a magnificent panoramic view opens up over the vineyards and the towers of some 60 churches. The Würzburg Residence, the city palace of the prince-bishops, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as early as 1981. During a visit to the Baroque palace complex on the outskirts of downtown, the Hofgarten reveals itself as a green jewel.

Germany

Bamberg

The UNESCO World Heritage city of Bamberg enchants its visitors with a stunning old town that invites you to stroll and explore. The Sandstrasse, the city’s most famous street, runs through the old town and is home to the Schlenkerla Brewery, which has been in operation since 1405. The brewery’s restaurant is legendary, and here locals and tourists alike enjoy themselves over Rauchbier and Bamberg-style onion dishes. Towering above Sandstrasse is the Romanesque Bamberg Cathedral of St. Peter and St. George. It is known as the Imperial Cathedral because the imperial couple, Henry and Kunigunde, are buried here. The Imperial Cathedral also houses the only papal tomb north of the Alps.

Germany

Nuremberg

Nuremberg is an independent city in Bavaria, not far from Fürth. Even today, you can still see the medieval architecture that runs throughout the city. The old city walls and the Imperial Castle tell of days long past. Nuremberg is famous for its Christmas market. The Christkind heralds the start of the Advent and Christmas market season. The classic Christstollen is world-famous and a real treat. Numerous museums, such as the Albrecht Dürer House and the Toy Museum, are popular attractions in the city.

Germany

Kelheim

Kelheim is the administrative seat of the district of the same name on the Danube. This small town in Lower Bavaria has about 17,000 residents and offers its citizens a wide range of recreational, cultural, athletic, and educational opportunities. The city is located between Regensburg and Ingolstadt at the mouth of the Main-Danube Canal, where the old canal harbor, dating from 1846, stands as a monument to earlier architectural styles. The nearby Altmühl Valley and the Danube Gorge are also scenic highlights. One of the most significant attractions, the Benedictine Abbey of Weltenburg, is located there.High above Kelheim, on the Michelsberg, stands the Hall of Liberation. King Ludwig I had it built in the 19th century to commemorate the victorious battles against Napoleon. The Ludwigsbahn railway takes visitors effortlessly up to the hill, where they can enjoy a magnificent view from the top.The former ducal city of Kelheim looks back on a long, eventful history dating back to the Celts. The Old Town, surrounded by a 14th-century wall, is truly worth seeing. Three city gates provide access to the historic center. The central point is Ludwigsplatz, featuring the old and new town halls. Other medieval structures include the Otto Chapel and the Schleiferturm. Kelheim is home to the Weisses Bräuhaus, Bavaria’s oldest wheat beer brewery.

Germany

Passau

Thanks to its unique geographical location at the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers, Passau is undoubtedly one of Germany’s most unique cities. But it’s not just the location of this “City of Three Rivers” that is extraordinary—Passau also offers its visitors numerous remarkable sights. Towering over the city is the Veste Oberhaus, an impressive 13th-century fortress. Passau’s Old Town is known for its beautiful Baroque architecture, most notably St. Stephen’s Cathedral with its distinctive onion domes and the world’s largest cathedral organ, featuring nearly 18,000 pipes.
