IJsselmeer & Canal Magic

IJsselmeer & Canal Magic

About This Cruise

Open water, historic harbour towns and lively cities await aboard VIVA TIARA in May. Departing from Düsseldorf, this seven-night journey explores the Netherlands and Antwerp in Belgium. The IJsselmeer, canals and maritime heritage meet modern architecture, while spring river views and peaceful hours on board provide a relaxing rhythm between destinations.

In Amsterdam, discover slender gabled houses, bridges and the city's characteristic canals. A late-evening departure allows time for an extended visit and a leisurely pause along the way. Medemblik and Enkhuizen then introduce the harbour towns of the IJsselmeer. Historic buildings and a close connection to the water reflect their seafaring past and give each town its own character.

Rotterdam offers a striking contrast with distinctive buildings and the energy of a modern port city. In Antwerp, historic façades, Flemish art and Belgian flavours invite you to explore. Your ship stays until shortly before midnight, leaving time to enjoy the city's atmosphere in the evening.

Continue via Willemstad and the old harbours of Dordrecht to Arnhem. Each stop adds another perspective before your return to Düsseldorf. Between walks ashore, settle back and watch the changing landscape from your ship. Bringing together harbour scenery, cultural discoveries and relaxation, this spring cruise reveals the variety of the region by water. Your journey ends after seven nights, with breakfast before disembarkation.

Germany

Düsseldorf

The Rhineland way of life, blending tradition and modernity—Düsseldorf captivates with its diversity! Art and culture lovers are just as enthralled here as shopping enthusiasts; the Media Harbor impresses with its contemporary architecture, as does the historic Old Town. With more than 250 cozy pubs, the Old Town makes Düsseldorf the “longest bar in the world.” And it’s not just the traditional Altbier that tastes great there! Don’t miss a stroll down Königsallee, the world-famous shopping boulevard—or perhaps you’d prefer a visit to one of the many charming flea markets? And right in the middle of it all: plenty of green space and the Rhine with its riverside promenade, perfect for taking a deep breath. No wonder the VIVA family feels right at home here!

Netherlands

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of those cities that every traveler should visit at least once in their lifetime. It’s no wonder that millions upon millions of tourists flock to the city of canals every year to enjoy its abundance of sights and cultural offerings. The best way to discover Amsterdam is on a boat tour along the canals or a stroll along these unique waterways. Art lovers will be immediately drawn to one of the world-famous museums, such as the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum, or the Van Gogh Museum. Partygoers will find their happy place in the nightlife and red-light district of De Wallen. And beer lovers should definitely not miss the Heineken Experience.

Netherlands

Rotterdam

The port city of Rotterdam is located in the Netherlands and is one of the most interesting places in the world. Its modern architecture plays a significant role in this. Among the impressive sights is the horseshoe-shaped Market Hall, with its vast array of goods and lively atmosphere. In the Old Harbor, with its striking white building, you can admire historic ships. The Witte de Withstraat shopping district is a great place to stroll, shop, and party. The futuristic-looking central station, known as “The Bag,” is also a great spot for bar-hopping and shopping.

Belgium

Antwerp

The heart of Flanders beats in Antwerp, the international center of the diamond trade. And when it comes to the finest chocolates and the vibrant cultural scene, it beats just a little faster. Home to numerous fashion designers, painters, and musicians, Antwerp was Europe’s largest city 400 years ago, and its historic city center bears witness to a magnificent past: A visit to the main hall of the central train station or the luxury department store “Stadsfeestzaal” is well worth it! In addition to thirteen UNESCO World Heritage Sites, more than 50 Baroque works by Rubens in various museums are a stunning sight to behold.

Curaçao

Willemstad

Willemstad is a former fortress city built by William of Orange, located on the southern coast of the Netherlands. It is an imposing, star-shaped fortress consisting of a hexagon of canals and five bastions. There are a total of 11 fortresses along the southern coast of the Netherlands, three of which can be visited in Willemstad. In this historic city, the former ammunition depots and supply stores have been transformed into cozy cafés and restaurants, inviting visitors to take a break in a historic setting. In addition to touring the fortresses, you can also spot wonderful birds in the area around Willemstad. The best place to do this is at the Hellegat-Ventjager Bird Boulevard, where you’ll find four observation huts and a lookout tower.

Netherlands

Arnhem

Arnhem is the capital of the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. The city is located along a short stretch of the Rhine known as the Nederrijn. It is surrounded by peaceful natural areas, such as the Hoge Veluwe National Park. There, you can hike and bike to your heart’s content. The city is known as a fashion hub. Large shopping centers and boutiques in the Modekwartier invite you to browse. The famous Burgers Zoo, the most beautiful zoo in the Netherlands, is a great destination for a day trip. Alternatively, you can visit one of the many museums: the Museum Arnhem features impressive modern art, while the Wijnmuseum is located in one of the oldest wine cellars in the Netherlands. The Open-Air Museum and the Dutch Water Museum are also worth a visit. A panoramic elevator in the Eusebius Church takes you 73 meters above the city. From here, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire city.
