The town of Boppard is located in the Middle Rhine Valley and features many small shops, a beautiful old town, and a medieval tower. High above this small town on the Rhine stands a majestic castle, one of many in the Middle Rhine Valley. You feel as if you’ve been transported back to the Middle Ages. Boppard is connected to the Rhine towns in Hesse by a small ferry. There isn’t a single bridge between Mainz and Koblenz, as the Middle Rhine Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 2000-year-old Speyer resembles a single open-air museum: Salian history at every turn. The cathedral city on the Rhine is proud of its favorable location in the heart of Europe. The many-towered silhouette of the mighty red sandstone cathedral towers over the city. Anyone visiting the cathedral should also descend the steps to the imperial crypt. The most important sights of the old imperial city are almost all located in the city center, which makes it possible to admire them during a nice walk through the city. Those who are tired of walking can stop in one of the countless restaurants and cafes.

The picturesque town of Rüdesheim is located right on the Rhine in Hesse and boasts numerous attractions, such as the famous Drosselgasse, which is lined with wine bars, as well as a castle and a torture museum that displays medieval instruments of torture and tells the history of the Inquisition. A cable car takes you up to the Niederwald Monument, which is located above the town. Linz am Rhein is located 30 kilometers from Bonn. This town of 6,000 residents is known for its many colorful houses in the historic old town, which have earned it the nickname “The Colorful Town on the Rhine.” Other sights in the town include the parish church of St. Martin, dating from the early 13th century, and the former Capuchin monastery church from the 17th century. Also, when visiting Linz am Rhein, be sure not to miss the castle of the Elector of Cologne. The viewpoint at Linz’s Kaiserberg Stadium offers a fantastic view of the entire region. Not far from Linz is the small Dattenberg Castle, which is also a popular destination for day trips.
