A view of the metropolis from the MAIN TOWER’s observation deck is a truly special experience. But Frankfurt isn’t just a very modern and bustling city—it also has a wealth of history to offer its visitors. The Römer and St. Paul’s Church are among Germany’s most famous historical landmarks. And when it comes to art and culture, Frankfurt is an absolute hotspot. With nearly 40 museums and exhibition venues, Frankfurt’s Museumsufer is one of the most important international museum districts.

Wertheim

The small town of Wertheim is located where the Tauber River flows into the Main. Magnificent half-timbered buildings characterize the market square. Among the town’s attractions is the parish church, which dates back to the Gothic period. Inside, the Counts of Wertheim—who ruled here from the 15th to the 18th century—have found their final resting place. Other tourist attractions include the Glass Museum and a stately castle that towers over the town from a hilltop.

Würzburg

High above the Main River stands the city’s landmark, visible from afar: Marienberg Fortress. For centuries, it served as the seat of the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg. Even a stroll across the Old Main Bridge, with its oversized stone figures, is an experience in itself. From Marienberg, a magnificent panoramic view opens up over the vineyards and the towers of some 60 churches. The Würzburg Residence, the city palace of the prince-bishops, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as early as 1981. During a visit to the Baroque palace complex on the outskirts of downtown, the Hofgarten reveals itself as a green jewel.

Miltenberg

The charming little town of Miltenberg first appeared in historical records as early as 1237 and soon achieved considerable prosperity. Situated on a bend in the Main River, this small town enchants visitors with its exquisite half-timbered architecture, the famous “Schnatterloch” gate tower, and what is likely Germany’s oldest inn. Wallenstein once stayed here. Imposing half-timbered gables form the distinctive backdrop of the medieval market square. Mildenburg Castle towers over the idyllic town from the hilltop. The Romans had advanced as far as this point along the Main River and secured this strategically important location with a fort.
