Moselle Magic from Koblenz

Moselle Magic from Koblenz

About This Cruise

Four nights, historic towns and the landscapes of the Moselle await aboard VIVA MOMENTS. Departing from Koblenz, explore a region shaped by history and wine-growing traditions. From late summer into autumn, the valley reveals changing moods and views. Between visits ashore, take time to watch the slopes along the river and settle into the gentle rhythm of travelling by water.

Your discoveries begin in Treis-Karden, followed by Cochem, where the castle rises high above the town. Wander through historic lanes and enjoy the atmosphere beside the river. With the ship staying until the evening, there is time to appreciate the town at an unhurried pace and pause along the way.

Trier takes you further into the past. Its Roman heritage and historic buildings give the city a distinctive character. Explore streets and squares, stop for a leisurely break and make the most of the late departure to experience Trier in the evening. Each part of the city adds another layer to your journey through the region's history.

In Bernkastel, half-timbered houses, small lanes and the Moselle's wine heritage provide the setting for your final discoveries. Town life and the surrounding landscape come together in a memorable stop before the return to Koblenz. Back on board, enjoy the passing views and a final stretch of relaxation on the water. Combining culture, river scenery and time to unwind, this short escape ends after four nights with breakfast and disembarkation in Koblenz.

Itinerary

Germany

Koblenz

Koblenz captivates visitors with its unique location at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. The first stop on any visit to the city should therefore be the so-called “Deutsches Eck” with its imposing Kaiser Wilhelm Monument. Since 2002, it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Middle Rhine Valley.” A visit to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress offers a beautiful view of Koblenz and its two rivers. Perched 120 meters above the Rhine, this 16th-century fortification is the second-largest surviving fortress in Europe. Even the ride up in a cable car gondola is spectacular.

Germany

Treis-Karden

The picturesque little town of Treis-Karden is located right on the Moselle River in one of Germany’s most beautiful regions. It’s particularly well-known among vacationers and hikers for its proximity to Eltz Castle. However, if you don’t have enough time for a hike, there are plenty of exciting sights to discover right within the town: For example, you can visit the Maria Engelport Monastery and attend Mass or even concerts. You can also explore the chapel or the so-called Lourdes Grotto there. Furthermore, it’s worth visiting St. Castor Church—known as the Mosel Cathedral—as well as the fountain of the same name, complete with its sculpture.

Germany

Trier

Trier impresses with its Roman-era structures—most notably the well-preserved Porta Nigra. But the city’s churches are also worth visiting. Germany’s oldest city was founded by the Romans around 16 B.C. under Emperor Augustus. Charlemagne made the city an archbishopric. In hardly any other German city are the remnants of the Romans as abundant as they are in Trier. You can even drink them in the form of wine. The vineyards on the slopes of the Moselle and Saar valleys look back on 2,000 years of history.

Germany

Bernkastel-Kues

Numerous half-timbered houses adorn the town of Bernkastel, situated right on the Moselle. Perched above the town is a castle with a restaurant, and the old town is home to numerous small boutiques and shops. The Moselle is perfect for an unforgettable boat cruise, as well as for kayaking or canoeing. Bernkastel is known for its ideal location on the Moselle and its quaint old town. Together with Kues, it forms a twin town—on the left and right banks of the Moselle—with numerous restaurants and bars.
