Störtebeker & Baltic Dreams

Störtebeker & Baltic Dreams

About This Cruise

From Berlin to the islands and towns of the Baltic region, this seven-night journey to Stralsund combines varied waterways with summer coastal charm. Between late June and August, long days leave room for discoveries ashore, while time on board allows you to relax and enjoy the changing scenery.

Depart Berlin-Spandau and travel via Lehnitz to the Niederfinow ship lift. Continue through Hohensaaten and Schwedt to Szczecin, before Świnoujście brings a stronger maritime feel to the route. An overnight stay leaves time to experience the town at your own pace the following day.

Via Wolgast, reach Lauterbach on Rügen, where the ship stays from late morning until midday the next day. Here, the Störtebeker theme finds its setting: an evening festival excursion is listed in the itinerary. Island atmosphere and the stories of the coast give this stage a distinctive character, with time to enjoy the surroundings between discoveries.

After Greifswald-Wieck, explore Stralsund before the journey takes you to one more island. Spend your final night on board in Vitte on Hiddensee, then return to Stralsund for disembarkation the next morning. Look forward to maritime townscapes, island moments and relaxing hours on the water, on a summer journey where historic places and open views complement one another. Each stage brings a new perspective as the capital gives way to the coast. Your cruise ends after breakfast.

Itinerary

Germany

Berlin

Berlin is the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. Because of its great historical and contemporary significance, the city has many sights to offer.First and foremost, a few well-known landmarks should be mentioned: the Brandenburg Gate, the TV Tower, and the Victory Column. In addition, all the major government buildings are located here: for example, the Reichstag, with its famous dome, is definitely worth a visit. Furthermore, the city is home to the sites of several important historical events, such as “Checkpoint Charlie” or the “East Side Gallery,” a remnant of the Berlin Wall. There is also no shortage of shopping opportunities; for example, Kurfürstendamm is very well known.”

Swinemünde

Sand beneath your feet, a soothing sea breeze, and the gentle sound of the waves—Swinemünde has plenty of that! The wide sandy beach is one of the most beautiful on the Baltic Sea. A twelve-kilometer-long beach promenade connects the city of 40,000 residents with the Baltic Sea resort of Bansin. A worthwhile destination for a stroll: the Mühlenbake, a lighthouse shaped like a windmill. If you’ve caught the bug, you can take the ferry to the island of Wollin and climb the 308 steps of the Świnoujście Lighthouse, which, at 68 meters, is the tallest on the Polish Baltic coast. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can take a seat in one of the countless cafés or relax in the idyllic spa gardens.

Germany

Wolgast

Wolgast, the former residence of the Dukes of Pomerania-Wolgast, continues to captivate visitors today with its blend of tradition and modernity. The town’s historic old town is well worth a visit, featuring St. Petri Church, the Baroque town hall, and numerous restored historic mansions. A visit to the zoo, the city museum, or the Peene Bridge—Germany’s largest cantilever bascule bridge—is highly recommended. If you have some extra time, a boat tour is a great idea.

Germany

Lauterbach

The island of Rügen—and especially the town of Lauterbach—has a lot to offer. Here you can enjoy beautiful beaches, unique landscapes, the chalk cliffs, and the “Rasender Roland,” a nostalgic train that runs all the way to the mainland. Of course, there are also seaside resorts, such as Binz and Sellin. Since the island isn’t very large, you can visit and explore all the towns in a single day. The cliffs offer breathtaking views. Lauterbach is a small, idyllic town.

Germany

Stralsund

Many travelers only catch a glimpse of Stralsund from the car on their way to Rügen—a big mistake. This proud Hanseatic city is one of the most beautiful historic cities in Germany. Once the second-most important trading center on the Baltic Sea after Lübeck, today its Old Town—with over 500 historic buildings—is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Particularly impressive are the three imposing churches, especially St. Mary’s Church with its 104-meter-high tower and observation deck offering a magnificent view of the city, the sea, and Rügen. Equally worth seeing are the magnificent brick-Gothic-style town hall, as well as the Ozeaneum and the Maritime Museum, which delight visitors of all ages. Animal lovers and ship enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy—at the charming zoo or aboard the Gorch Fock training sailing ship.

Germany

Vitte

In Vitte on the island of Hiddensee there is much more to see besides a beautiful sandy beach and the picturesque harbor. In the center of the village you can stroll very comfortably between pretty little stores and restaurants. The villa "Karusel", where the Danish silent film star Asta Nielsen once lived, is located northeast of Vitte. There you will find an exhibition on Asta Nielsen and the architect Max Taut. A little further south is the historic windmill. A visit is worthwhile. Also worth seeing is the "Blue Barn", which is over 200 years old. There lived the painter Henni Lehmann, who belonged to the Hiddenseer Künstlerinnenbund and liked to invite many artists there. Hiddensee is not known as a romantic artist island for nothing. Celebrities such as Carl Zuckmayer, Thomas Mann, Sigmund Freud and especially Gerhart Hauptmann also spent numerous summers in Vitte and left their mark here. In house "Seedorn", Hauptmann's former summer residence, is now a museum.Hikers and strollers can walk over the dike to Kloster and Neuendorf and explore the surroundings of Vitte along the way. Or you can treat yourself to a horse-drawn cab and enjoy the natural beauty during an unforgettable carriage ride. The entire island is almost car-free. This makes it particularly charming.
